Drop-off Schedule

Bring down your food scraps from 9:00am - 11:00am on Sundays at Jalan Senang Community Garden and join us in making compost. Drop us an e-mail if you are a business or individual interested in contributing to our project.

What to Bring

Accepted items:

  • Fruit and vegetable scraps (peel, rind, skin, pulp, leaves, cobs and husks)

  • Coffee grounds

  • Loose-leaf tea

  • Egg shells (crushed)

  • Nut shells

Please do not bring:

  • Cooked food

  • Meat and fish scraps

  • Cheese and dairy products

  • Fats and oily food

  • Stickers (especially on fruit) or glossy paper

  • Biodegradable or compostable packaging

Tips:

A convenient way to keep food scraps for the week is in a reusable container in the fridge or freezer. Doing so prevents odours and flies in the kitchen and stops the scraps from becoming anaerobic.

Plastic bags may be used but must be disposed off separately so reusable containers are preferred. Please note that we do not accept compostable or biodegradable bags/containers as they do not break down in our system.

What happens to the food scraps?

The finished compost is full of beneficial microbes and will be used to feed the growing soils in the community garden. As our soil builds up organic matter and nutrients, vibrant soil life contributes to better plant health which circulates back to you in the form of produce at our garden fairs.
